About Us

We have been in a long distance relationship for over 14 years.  Vernon is in Somerset, England and I am in Upper Michigan US. We started out as just "pen-pals" who shared same single parenting situation.  Before we knew it, we couldn't imagine being with anyone else.

The way we met can be read in my first blog post. In a nutshell, we met on the internet. I can't believe that I found him. He is my best friend. He is someone who makes me feel like the most beautiful woman on this planet. I often wonder what I did to deserve such a wonderful man like Vernon. We've been together for over 14 years, and this relationship has been a wonderful adventure. Technology has played a big part in the evolution of our relationship. I wouldn't change anything about us except for the distance.

He has 2 kids: son 22 and daughter 17 and a granddaughter (from son). I have one daughter also 22 who is in her fourth year at college (University for you Brits). I keep a blog about her and my separation anxiety while she is gone, Oi With the Poodles Already.  She thinks I'm a big dork for writing a blog, but I think she's interested. Just wont admit it.

I am an IT professional. I have a lot of computer and administrative skills and experience and I'm very good at what I do. I really like my job and consider myself lucky that I work where I do.  Vernon is a small package delivery driver. His job is very physical. After 20 years with the same company, he decided to change gears and recently started working for a different delivery company. He is really liking this place, and I hear the people are very friendly. He's very talented with computers and can build pretty much anything. His first loves are Linux and Ubuntu and then me.. yeah, I think that's the order.

This blog helps close the gap between us. Vernon has told me that when he reads my posts he feels closer to me. He is what drives me to make this blog a success. I have been writing ever since I was a kid. I kept diaries all the time, Holly Hobby, Nancy Drew, the ones with the little brass locks on them. I wrote about boys, how much my parents made me angry, short stories and poems. When I got into high school I found that satire was my thing. Andy Rooney was my inspiration; And I think I was the only student in my class who didn't buy my research paper from a senior. They were fun for me. I stopped writing as an adult for several years, and just got started with it again. I didn't realize how much I missed it until I started writing again.  Some days I can't stop thinking about getting home to write. Vernon reads. He reads a lot. We read a few books together, mostly Terry Pratchett. I love his stuff. Then things got busy for me and I got behind. Vernon reads one book after another, and now has a Kindle. I am not pro-Kindle. I am a book person. We give each other a hard time about that.

I really believe that if two people love each other, no matter how far away you are you can make it work.
